@taiwan_girl said in Mediaeval Mythbusting: Hmm, seems like a reasonable theory and not a myth. I agree, but this guy's numbers belie that. But, yeah, small and narrow windows make a lot of sense. More: Yes: https://www.warhistoryonline.com/medieval/medieval-staircases.html No: https://talesoftimesforgotten.com/2019/12/18/no-medieval-staircases-werent-designed-to-give-right-handed-defenders-an-advantage/ Yes: https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/609669/why-medieval-castle-staircases-ran-clockwise A somewhat related story: We were always told to mount horses from the horse's left side. That's how horses are trained, and if you try to mount of the "off" side, some will object. (I was able to mount Simon from either side - he was such a good guy) The reason for this has to do with swords. If you're a knight, or a cavalryman, your sword was usually on the left side. So, when you put your left foot into the stirrup, the sword would not swing over the horse's rear, potentially startling him.

Cotton's questions: "Is TikTok under the influence of the Chinese Communist Party?" Cotton goes on and on connecting Chew to the CCP. Link to video And then, about halfway through, he gets into the citizenship comments. After that, he starts, for some unknown reason, asking about Tiannamin (sp?) Square and Chinese genocide.

Really wish they would move the USS Kidd down from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. The Kidd is the most authentic Fletcher class left.

I'm not at all an expert in that domain but it strikes me as rather limiting to have all state in a database, and always work with acid transactions. Sure, sometimes it's what you want, but acid transactions don't scale well with concurrency and are generally quite expensive. I want this as an option, but not as the only tool in my toolbox.

If I were planning a route from Virginia to the Mexican border it probably wouldn’t pass through Jacksonville.

@Doctor-Phibes said in In other news, fish can swim...: My new boss is coming over from the HK office Is he original from Hong Kong? I wonder what % of people took a UK passport vs. a Chinese passport when the turnover happened in 1997(?).
